Programs
Changing Ways
Counselling support group for men wanting to change abusive behaviour and attitudes in their intimate partner relationshiops. 16 weeks meeting once per week for two hours Wednesday evenings.
Choices
Counselling support group for women who have experienced abuse in their intimate partner relationships. 16 weeks meeting once per week for two hours Thursday evenings.
Kids Choices
Group programs for children or youth who have witnessed violence in the home, or who have issues with anger or bullying. Groups are currently run in selected schools during the school day. Participaion is determined by the school.
Individual Counselling (Adults)
Short-term individual support, primarily for Changing Ways and Choices participants, to supplement the group process.
Individual Counselling (Ages 5 - 18)
For those who have witnessed family violence or who struggle with anger or bullying. Helps children/youth work through their feelings and experiences in regard to family violence.
Anger Management (Adults)
For people who want to deal with chronic anger and rage not related to their marriage, common-law or dating relationships. 8 weeks meeting once per week for two hours Wednesday evenings.
Parenting After Violence
For parents with at least one child ages 6 years and under. Learn how family violence impacts children and parenting relationships. 8 weeks meeting once per week for 2.25 hours Wednesday mornings. Eight weekly themes include:
- Affect of Violence on Children
- Family Patterns
- Dealing with Verbal Abuse
- Single Parenting
- Assertive Parent
- Child Development
- Positive Discipline
- Anger and Conflict Management
Interactive group discussions will emphasize positive parenting. Instruction, materials and childcare for pre-schoolers provided free of charge. Delivered in partnership with:
- Camrose Adult Learning Counicl - Family Literacy Program
- University of Alberta, Augustana Campus - Learning and Beyond
Community Partnership and Public Awareness
FVAS coordinates the Camrose Family Violence Response Council and is involved in a variety of local and regional initiatives; FVAS staff are happy to meet with agencies and community groups to discuss family violence, including appropriate intervention and prevention.
